Assignment #1 If You Could Transport Yourself Anywhere..

In 1912 the world was shocked to hear the tragedy of the Titanic sinking in the Atlantic ocean. On April 14th, 1912 the Titanic struck an iceberg that drove it to its doom, the vessel was hit on the starboard side causing the ship to buckle under the pressure and start to snap in many places along the hull and began to go under. Once five compartments were filled with water the craft began to go completely under. On April,15th just after midnight captain Edward J. Smith sent out a distress signal, several ships responded but were to far away to be able to come and help in time. Then the first lifeboat was let out, with only 28 people on it when it had the capacity to hold up to 60, 10 minutes after two more lifeboats, and finally a forth lifeboat with only 12 people leaving the fifth boat with an overload of 70 people on it. With two lifeboats left to be launched the Titanic shattered and snapped into two pieces, there was no hope left the people who did not make it onto a lifeboat they were bound to die. Grievously a total of 1,517  souls were lost that faithful night. An amens sorrow was set upon the world after this dreadful tragedy, but will be learnt from. Now years and years later in 2010 we now know much more intricate work and have learnt from the flaws of the Titanic to make the world more at ease when they choose to travel by ship.

  1. Good start, Lisa. Strong mechanics. Focus on description rather than historical facts.
